Man City want to beat Man Utd to signing of "incredible" 16 y/o this summer

Manchester City are battling with one of their biggest rivals for the signing of an "incredible" youngster in the summer transfer window, according to a fresh update regarding their upcoming business.

Man City transfer news

While Pep Guardiola's side are once again basking in the glory of being crowned Premier League champions – a fourth time in a row and sixth success in seven seasons – that doesn't mean new faces won't once again be coming to bolster the options at the Spaniard's disposal.

While established stars are being looked at, Tottenham youngster Han Willhoft-King has reportedly agreed terms over a move to the Etihad this summer, ensuring that the long-term picture continues to be looked at. Meanwhile, City have also reportedly hijacked a deal for Chelsea youngster Ryan McAidoo, following an update from renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

A shock reunion with former player Jadon Sancho has also been mooted in recent times, with the Englishman potentially linking up with Erling Haaland again, as was the case during their successful spell together at Borussia Dortmund.

Two Bayern Munich superstars in Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala are also thought to be being looked at by City, with the pair both elite-level footballers who could be fantastic high-profile additions. Club chiefs reportedly see the latter as the more ambitious target of the two, which is understandable, considering he is one of the most exciting young players in world football.

Man City want to sign "incredible" winger

According to Football Insider, Manchester City are interested in signing Tottenham teenager Mikey Moore in the current window, and have tabled an offer for his services.

Exactly the same applies to rivals Manchester United, however, with the 16-year-old able to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 years of age in August. Spurs are believed to be "pulling out all the stops" to keep hold of their talented attacker, seeing him as a huge prospect for the future.

Mikey Moore makes his Tottenham debut

While glittery big name signings will always make City fans sit up and take notice, acquiring the best homegrown talent around is equally important, in terms of adhering to Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules and ensuring that there a nucleus of a special young talent on show at the Etihad.

Moore certainly ticks the boxes in that respect, with the Spurs starlet already making two appearances for Ange Postecoglou's first team, as well as registering a stunning 29 goal contributions (17 goals and 12 assists) in just 22 appearances in the U18 Premier League.

Man City may lose "crazy" ace after massive £500k-p/w offer to join Ronaldo

The Premier League champions could suffer a shock blow.

ByTom Cunningham Jul 4, 2024

That goes to show what a prolific attacking player the England youth international is, while journalist Jay Harris has described him as "incredible" in the recent past.

It clearly won't be easy for City to complete the signing of Moore, with Spurs battling to keep him, and United and other clubs also wanting him, but the opportunity to work with Guardiola at some point could be too great to turn down.

Man City win 2-1 in injury timeStones goal ruled out by refereeWinner allowed to stand by VARFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

City looked set to drop points for the third time this season as they stayed level on terms with Wolves, who were putting on a sound defensive effort at Molineux. The hosts took a surprise lead early in the game through Jorgen Strand Larsen but were pegged back by Josko Gvardiol's wonder strike. It wasn't clicking for City through the second half until Stones scored from Phil Foden's corner in the fourth minute of injury time to put Pep Guardiola's side in the lead. The on-field referee ruled the goal out as Silva was considered to be interfering with Wolves keeper Jose Sa from an offside position, however, VAR stepped in to allow the goal to stand.

AdvertisementTHE EXPLANATION

The Premier League Match Centre explained the Video Assitant Referee's decision to allow the goal on X, in a post that read: "Stones’ goal was disallowed on-field due to Bernardo Silva being in an offside position and in the goalkeeper’s line of vision. The VAR deemed Bernardo Silva wasn’t in the line of vision and had no impact on the goalkeeper and recommended an on-field review. The referee overturned his original decision and a goal was awarded."

Perth and Melbourne handed BBL fixtures in January

Sydney will also host games in the lead-in to the finals as the tournament plans to go to every major market

ESPNcricinfo staff23-Nov-2020Western Australia has been allocated its first top-level cricket of the season with five BBL matches penciled in for Perth during early January – including four home games for the Scorchers – and Melbourne will host 11 matches with confirmation of the remaining tournament fixtures which takes the competition to every major cricket market. While the fixture list remains dependent on various border restrictions being lifted, the Scorchers are set to play the Melbourne Renegades (January 3), Sydney Sixers (January 6), Sydney Thunder (January 9) and Hobart Hurricanes (January 12) at Optus Stadium. There will also be a neutral fixture between the Hurricanes and Thunder on January 7.Until now, Perth had a barren fixture list due to the state’s hard border. It had initially been hoped that the Australia and India teams would quarantine in the city and potentially play the white-ball matches there, but those plans ended some months ago. The Afghanistan Test, which had originally been scheduled for the end of November, was also postponed due to difficulties around scheduling.ALSO SEE: Full BBL fixtures”We’ve shaped the season such that we’ve tried to take advantage of borders that are open, obviously it’s a pretty moving target at the moment, but we are really confident the flow of the season allows us to do that,” Alistair Dobson, the head of the BBL, said. “We are working really closely with the authorities in WA to make sure we have everything in place to get into WA.”As was shown in Adelaide last week, CA knows they may still need to adapt at short notice. “It was a testament in our ability to move quickly, we’ll have to be on our toes all year, equally it was a reminder that while the situation is improving we still need to be really focused on the safety and well-being of players and fans,” Dobson said. The early part of January also sees additional fixtures in Queensland, Hobart and Adelaide before the competition relocates to Melbourne and Sydney from January 13 for the weeks leading into the finals series.Melbourne will host 11 matches – five at Marvel Stadium and six at the MCG – with the SCG and Sydney Showground having four games each.Although the schedule has been put together in rolling hubs, there is considerable travel involved and that will largely be done through chartered rather than commercial flights.”Moving players around has played a big role in how we’ve structured the schedule…it’s a bit trickier than normal years,” Dobson said. “It’s an added expense but part of delivering a Big Bash season this year.”The regular season will conclude with a triple-header on Australia Day (January 26) with the MCG hosting two games (Renegades v Hurricanes and Stars v Sixers) and the SCG one (Heat v Scorchers). The hope is that the finals series will be able to be staged in a traditional manner with home advantage while Dobson was hopeful that the crowd capacity penciled in for the Boxing Day Test of 25,000 at the MCG, with talk of pushing that towards 40,000, would be replicated for the BBL in Melbourne.Mick Murray, Western Australian Minister for Sport and Recreation, said: “It is exciting that the Perth Scorchers will have the opportunity to play four matches before a home crowd during this summer of cricket. This is a fantastic outcome for the State – and I thank the WACA, VenuesWest, Cricket Australia, the Chief Health Officer and the Police Commissioner for their work in securing these five games for WA.”

The Red Devils and the Stamford Bridge team have the biggest net spend over the past five years in the Premier League and splashed around more than £200 million ($261m) each on transfers this summer. In the run-up to the clash between first and fourth in the Premier League, Slot has prepared his team for a stern test this weekend.

    WHAT ARNE SLOT

He told reporters: "If you look at the league table, it is [the biggest challenge of the season]. I think Manchester United is a very good team, a top club in England that has spent a lot of money to even make the team better again. Same for Chelsea in this season. Chelsea does really well. If you look at the league table then they are the ones that might be our toughest opponent. But it's not always about the league table. Sometimes it's about the form of the day, it's about their game plan. We had some difficulty with Wolves as well, who are bottom of the league, I think. But it is a challenge, that's for sure."

Club reply as Tottenham make bid for £21 million player after Archie Gray

Tottenham have lodged an offer to sign another starlet amid their completed deal for Leeds United sensation Archie Gray, with his club already replying after Daniel Levy's advances.

Spurs reach agreement to sign Gray from Leeds for £40 million

Following a whirlwind last 72 hours, Spurs reached an agreement to sign Gray from Leeds for around £40 million, coming after they swooped in to hijack Brentford's deal for the 18-year-old.

The Bees originally shook hands on a £35 million deal to sign Gray instead of Spurs, and even booked a medical for the versatile teenager, who made an impressive 52 appearances in all competitions for Leeds last season as they narrowly missed out on Premier League promotion.

The transfer seemed done and dusted for Thomas Frank's side, who were commended for sealing an under-the-radar move for one of England's most exciting talents. However, journalist Ben Jacobs, who urged "caution until the ink is dry", was proven right in his call as he wrote on X that Spurs were one to watch in terms of hijacking the deal.

That scenario came to pass, with Brentford unable to finalise the terms and Ange Postecoglou moving in to take advantage of this situation. Following accelerated talks over the weekend, Spurs concluded talks with Leeds over a deal for Gray at around £40 million and have now announced a deal.

Fiorentina reply as Tottenham submit £17 million bid for Kayode

Fiorentina defender Michael Kayode is a player of interest to Spurs, who could replace the exit-bound Emerson Royal, as the Brazilian remains heavily linked with a move to AC Milan.

Michael Kayode tussling with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Viola News have an update on this, and the Italian news website claims Tottenham have made a bid of just less than £17 million for Kayode alongside Aston Villa. However, Fiorentina value the right-back at no less than £21 million, with Viola's headline claiming Spurs' opening offer has been rejected.

Kayode, who made 26 Serie A appearances under former boss Vincenzo Italiano last season, has been described as a player with serious potential.

“This one is really strong,” said Pino Vitale, an experienced Italian agent, to Radio Firenze Viola (via HITC) after Kayode's performance against Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

“Incredible. He forced Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to chase him. It was the best match ever since (Vincenzo) Italiano took over Fiorentina. They didn’t let Napoli play and ate them up. (Full-backs Fabiano) Parisi and Kayode are strong and played an excellent game.

“Kvaratskhelia had to change wings due to the way Kayode controlled him! There is no need to worry about him. He is only 19 years old, but he is a ‘player’.”

Brendan Taylor: 'Pakistan's death bowling took game away from us'

Azam lauds Riaz and Afridi, but calls for a better performance on the batting front

Brendan Taylor drives on the up•PCB

A despondent Brendan Taylor admitted he felt “lucky” to have received the Player-of-the-match award for his valiant century against Pakistan that took Zimbabwe close to a 1-0 lead. He pointed instead at the man who had ended his vigil at the crease, saying he believed Shaheen Afridi was a worthier recipient of the honour.”I feel very lucky to get this Man-of-the-match award as I feel Shaheen [Afridi] should have got it,” Taylor said at the post-match presentation. “You’re up against a very skillful attack at the death and they were too good at the end. It was that skill level at the death that took it away from us.”With little to split the two sides across the best part of 90 overs, it was the two bowling units’ contrasting performances in the final five overs at each innings that took Pakistan home. While Zimbabwe had been disciplined – if unspectacular – with the ball for the first 40 overs of the Pakistan innings, sloppiness crept in under pressure, and a few extras and full-tosses allowed Pakistan’s lower order to plunder 90 in the final ten overs. A more accomplished bowling attack may have smelled blood after reducing Pakistan to 205 for six, but Zimbabwe aren’t quite there yet.ALSO READ: Afridi tops Taylor to make it 1-0 for PakistanPakistan, meanwhile, very much are. Most notably Afridi, whose importance to this Pakistan side seems to grow larger with each passing game. When Zimbabwe required 88 off the final ten overs with six wickets in hand, they were ahead in the game at that stage, but Afridi turned things around.Benefitting from the added pressure after the dismissal of Wesley Madhevere by Wahab Riaz – another key point of differential between the sides – Afridi flummoxed Taylor with a perfectly disguised slower ball that was scooped scooped high up to mid-off, where Riaz dealt the killer blow. It was his third wicket of the night, and he’d come back for two more in his final over for his second five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. His captain Babar Azam was effusive in his praise, saying Afridi’s quality gave him comfort even when Taylor and Madhevere were flying high.”Shaheen Shah gave us an outstanding start, and at the finish, he was brilliant alongside Wahab Riaz at the death,” Azam said at the post-match press conference. “I had great belief in him because I know his qualities. Wahab Riaz is very experienced, but Shaheen is building up experience as well, now. That reassured me even when Zimbabwe were in a really strong position. That faith was vindicated in the way he finished the game off.”Azam also praised Taylor’s innings, terming it outstanding and saying it appeared as if he was a “one-man show” at times, but lamented Pakistan’s performance with the bat, promising improvement in the upcoming games. “When we started the innings the wicket was a bit two-paced,” he said. “Some balls came on to the bat really nicely but others didn’t. That puts you in doubt and a bit more hesitant to play your shots. I tried to remain positive but it was quite a tricky wicket to get set on, and that makes it challenging for the new batsmen.”The way we started was unfortunately not up to our expectations. But we were playing ODI cricket after a year and we were all a little rusty, and there are better performances to follow from us.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

United have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, with Sunday's defeat by West Ham leaving them 14th in the Premier League table after nine games. They have also failed to win any of their three Europa League games, drawing against Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Ten Hag was in serious danger of losing his job late last season as United came eighth in the Premier League, their worst finish since 1990. The club spoke to numerous candidates including Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna and Thomas Tuchel but Ten Hag eventually clung on and was given a one-year extension of his contract. It means that United are likely to have to pay an estimated £7 million in compensation to Ten Hag, which could have been avoided in the summer.

Arsenal are still attempting to get a deal for Riccardo Calafiori over the line after agreeing personal terms on a five-year contract with the Italy international centre-back, as talks remain ongoing over the final fee and payment structure.

A possible exit for England's Aaron Ramsdale, which has been highly mooted by sections of the media, has also prompted the Gunners to look at alternative back-up options for current number one David Raya – who joined Arsenal permanently in a £27 million deal from Brentford.

Arsenal have made bids for Wolves keeper Daniel Bentley, coming 15 years after he left the academy, but Edu's opening offers for the 30-year-old are believed to have fallen well short of their valuation.

Young England Under-20 international keeper Tommy Setford has joined Arsenal from Ajax, but he could be seen as one for the future, rather than an immediate successor to Ramsdale. There is also the matter of a new midfielder to come in and bolster Arteta's options. The Spaniard perhaps requires another body to complement midfielders Declan Rice and Jorginho, especially as uncertainty surrounds the future of Thomas Partey.

Partey is reportedly prepared to leave Arsenal and embark on a fresh challenge, after making just 14 Premier League appearances last season, with his contract also set to expire in under 12 months. The Ghanaian is attracting rumoured interest from Saudi Arabia as a potentially lucrative destination for him, and Arsenal have considered a few would-be heirs to Partey already.

Arsenal held talks with Amadou Onana before he ultimately ended up heading to Aston Villa, according to former Everton CEO Keith Wyness, and Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi has admirers at the Emirates Stadium as well.

However, the midfield name being repeatedly mentioned in tandem with Arsenal lately is Zubimendi's teammate, Mikel Merino.

Arteta views Merino as a potential bargain signing for Arsenal

The Spain international impressed on his country's run to Euro 2024 glory, scoring the winner against hosts Germany in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

His £51,000-per-week contract is also set to expire next year as things stand, making him an affordable option at around £25 million. That is according to GiveMeSport, who also state that Arteta sees Merino as a "reasonable value" potential Arsenal signing due to his price tag.

The 28-year-old not only starred for Spain but also impressed at club level last term over his 45 appearances in all competitions for Sociedad.
