Seattle Sounders FC has revealed their new away kit for the 2025 and 2026 MLS seasons, officially dubbed the “The Salish Sea Kit.” The design draws inspiration from the Pacific Northwest’s rich coastal heritage, featuring a color palette and patterns that evoke the region’s maritime culture. Not only that, the Rave Green collaborated with indigenous artists representing the Puyallup, Muckleshoot and Suquamish Native American Tribes in order to bring out the best of the Coast Salish weaving traditions in their away kit.

Not only that, the club, in their statement, revealed that they are set to donate proceeds of up to $50,000 from the first 30 days to preserve the cultural heritage of tribal communities.

“We are proud to present The Salish Sea Kit – a jersey that embodies the Sounders FC spirit and our region’s deep cultural and environmental ties,” said Sounders FC President of Business Operations Hugh Weber. “Collaborating with Connie McCloud, Gail White Eagle and Danielle Morsette, artists and weavers from the Puyallup, Muckleshoot and Suquamish Tribes, has been an extraordinary honor. This kit is more than what we wear on the pitch, it is a testament to partnership, stewardship and our shared responsibility to protect the Salish Sea for generations to come.”

Created by Adidas, the Sounders "Salish Sea Kit" features a deep navy blue base color, reminiscent of the Pacific Ocean. The Sounders' crest is displayed on the left chest while the primary sponsor, Providence, is placed on the center of the chest in blue letters.

  • WHAT LIES AHEAD FOR SEATTLE SOUNDERS?

The Sounders finished fourth in the Western Conference at the end of the 2024 season. They then beat Houston Dynamo (on penalties) in Round One of the playoffs and then LAFC in the Conference semifinals to set up a clash against the Galaxy in the Conference finals. However, in a tight fought contest, the Rave Green lost 1-0 to the eventual MLS Cup Champions.

While that did break a few hearts, the Sounders have bounced back well so far through a stellar preseason. The club are currently gearing up for a busy start to their 2025 campaign, balancing their Concacaf Champions Cup Round One tie against Antigua GFC with their MLS season opener against Charlotte FC. The two-legged continental fixture sandwiches the domestic curtain-raiser.

Farke: £40,000-p/w Leeds star’s injury return may come sooner than expected

Daniel Farke has confirmed that a £40,000-a-week Leeds United star is ahead of schedule in his bid to return from injury.

The Whites have suffered a lot with injuries already in this 2024/25 Championship season, but that hasn’t stopped them from picking up some impressive results. It is just one defeat in 13 league games, as their win over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday means they are just three points behind leaders Sunderland.

A dream for Tanaka: Leeds enquire about signing "very special" £7m star

Leeds United may find it difficult to secure a deal for the central midfielder.

ByDan Emery Nov 4, 2024 Leeds transfer news

The injuries that Leeds have picked up so early into the campaign will have been a worry for Farke, and it made the German do something he wasn’t keen on doing, and that was turn to the free agent market and sign Josuha Guilavogui.

But that addition is a short-term one, and by the time January arrives, Farke and Leeds may have their eye on a few players they would like to sign as they try to return to the Premier League. In a recent report, it emerged that Leeds are interested in signing Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest. The midfielder is currently on loan at MLS side LAFC, and even though they have an option to make the deal permanent, the Whites are also keen on signing the player.

O’Brien is not the only midfielder Leeds are looking at, as they have also been linked with a move for Kalvin Phillips in January. The Englishman is currently on loan at Ipswich Town from Manchester City, but there has been talk of him looking to return to Elland Road. However, Leeds are not expected to seal a reunion with Phillips in January.

That will be disappointing news for Leeds fans, but their pain might not last too long as they now hear that a key player is ahead of his schedule as he looks to return from his injury.

Leeds’ Ampadu hopefuly over earlier injury return

As reported by the Yorkshire Post, Farke has confirmed that Ethan Ampadu is ahead of schedule and he could be available earlier than expected. The Welshman has been out injured for over a month now, as he suffered the knee injury in the 3-0 win over Coventry City back in September.

Farke now states that Ampadu, who earns £40,000 a week, is ahead of schedule, and while he is not training yet and will not be rushed back, he could be available sooner than originally expected: “He’s working hard, already doing some running. It will be a while before he can join us in team training; he’s even a bit ahead of schedule. I’m carefully optimistic he can return to team training a bit earlier. We will see.

“Normally, it would be realistic to be back in training in the middle of December and then available in the beginning of January. It would be nice if he can help us already a bit earlier and sooner because he’s our captain and a versatile player. We would love to have him back, but we won’t rush it. It was a serious injury. He’s a bit ahead, but let’s see how it develops.

“It’s always difficult to say; you have to extend the load from day to day, and there could be a day when you have to be a bit careful and take a step back. It’s pretty rare that I’ve ever experienced a straightforward rehab. So far, each day it was better, and it looks really good, but it’s too soon to judge when he can help us again.”

Sky Sports: Arsenal set sights on signing "exciting" player after Edu exit

Arsenal chiefs have set their sights on an “exciting” potential signing for manager Mikel Arteta, with reports coming after sporting director Edu Gaspar announced his departure from N5.

Edu releases statement as Arsenal departure confirmed

The high-ranking transfer chief was responsible for some of their most pivotal signings of the last five years – perhaps most notably current club captain Martin Odegaard for just £30 million and their club-record deal for Declan Rice – with Edu also playing a major role in the appointment of Arteta.

Comfort for Arsenal as update emerges on transfer planning after Edu exit

The Brazilian will be a sore miss, but the club have back up.

ByEmilio Galantini Nov 5, 2024

Both the Brazilian and Arsenal’s manager worked in tandem as they developed the side from a mid-table team to genuine Premier League title challengers, ending their long hiatus from the Champions League and delivering some major silverware in the process.

However, following a shock exclusive report from journalist Sami Mokbel of The Daily Mail, who originally broke the news, it was revealed that Edu would be leaving his post as Arsenal sporting director – a role which he has held since 2022 after being promoted from technical director.

Later that same day, it was confirmed by the club and Edu himself, with Arteta since breaking his silence on the departure of a key club ally.

“Everything happened very quickly,” said Arteta on Edu’s departure.

“Obviously I loved working with him, I really enjoyed being alongside him on this incredible journey. From day one we’ve been together. First of all I’m very grateful personally for everything he’s done for me, and for the amazing work he’s done for the football club. I think we both had this special chemistry, working together, we really both enjoyed our roles and working together. I’m very blessed he’s been part of my life in such a beautiful place that I am right now, managing this amazing club and he’s been a massive part of that. He’s got an amazing opportunity now to do something else, in a different role and he believes it’s the right professional move for him. We have to respect that, and from the bottom of my heart, everybody really feels that we want the best for him.”

Obviously, concerns have since emerged over the club’s transfer planning. Reliable journalist Simon Collings shared a comforting update in this regard, saying Arsenal’s remaining executives can handle major dealings after Edu’s departure.

It was also stated that Arsenal’s transfer groundwork is often done a year in advance, so it appears they could already be prepared for January and next summer.

Arsenal set sights on "exciting" midfielder Hugo Larsson

According to Sky Germany and journalist Kerry Hau, as transcribed by Sport Witness, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson is a man on their agenda in the wake of Edu’s exit.

Arsenal have Larsson “in their sights” to sign, alongside the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham, with the 20-year-old starting this season impressively. The six-cap Swede boasts three goals and an assist from his opening 14 matches, with Hau also calling Larsson an “exciting” player to watch out for.

“Hugo Larsson is one of Eintracht Frankfurt’s shooting stars and is currently one of the most exciting midfielders in the Bundesliga,” he said.

“The 20-year-old Swede has already aroused the interest of several top clubs. According to our information, the Premier League is currently looking at him.

“Some top-class teams, right behind Liverpool FC, Arsenal FC and also Tottenham Hotspur, we hear, have Larsson in their sights, but also one or two Bundesliga competitors.

“Nevertheless, the Frankfurt bosses around Markus Dröschel can sit back and relax, because Larsson feels at home on the Main and that is why he recently extended his contract early until 2029 and, very importantly, from Frankfurt’s point of view, without an exit clause.”

Kohli: Training during the break was 'to stay in the rhythm of playing red-ball cricket'

The India Test captain is back to reclaim his spot in the XI for the Mumbai Test, but who will sit out? He isn’t telling just yet

Kohli: ‘We are not playing in normal times’

Virat Kohli is back in international cricket after a break, during which he skipped the T20I series against New Zealand completely and then essentially chose to step off the treadmill and spend time working on his game rather than jump right back into Test cricket. While India played the Kanpur Test, Kohli worked with former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar in Mumbai, which is where he lives.Watch live cricket on ESPN+ in the US

Kohli is now back refreshed and recharged, and emphasised on the need to look after one’s mental well-being in this bio-bubbles era of cricket. “It is very important to understand that it is crucial to refresh yourself mentally,” Kohli said a day before the Mumbai Test. “When you play so much cricket at a certain level for so long, it gets taken for granted that you will keep turning up series after series and perform with the same intensity in every match.”Since the situation has changed [with bio-bubbles being introduced as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic], a lot of people have spoken about how difficult it is in bubble life. Our players’ understanding and management’s communication is good, we have spoken a lot about how to manage the workload. More than workload, giving them mental space.Related

Dravid: 'Hopefully it is a matter of one innings for Rahane'

“From my personal experience, I can tell you that practising in an environment where you were not in a structured environment and there weren’t 50 cameras trained at you… we could do that previously, we would have windows where you could step aside and individually work on your game or take some time off where you are not doing the same thing every day. That makes a lot of difference.”To maintain the quality of cricket, to maximise the ability of the cricketers, to keep them in a good space, it is very important to consider this. Not just our team, but across the world, players are in the mindset to manage the workload, more from the mental point of view rather than physical.””When you play so much cricket at a certain level for so long, it gets taken for granted that you will keep turning up series after series and perform with the same intensity in every match”•AFP/Getty ImagesKohli has now gone two years of international cricket without a century. This period has included the break because of the pandemic and his paternity leave, but 12 Tests and 15 ODIs is the longest he has had to wait for a century. Was there anything specific he felt he needed to work on during this week spent away from the spotlight? No, said Kohli.”It was just to stay in the rhythm of playing red-ball cricket,” he said. “The idea was to get repetition and volume, which is important in Test cricket. It is just about getting into the mould of switching in-between formats, something that I have always tried to do. Whenever I get the opportunity to get some time to work on setting up for different formats. It is more so mentally than doing anything technique-wise. The more cricket you play, you understand your game more. It is just about getting into that headspace that you want to play in a certain way in a certain format. It was purely based on that.”There is no soft landing for Kohli. Straight off the bat, he has to make a tricky call on who should make way for him in the XI. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have had low returns for a while now, and Shreyas Iyer has amplified that with a century and a half-century on debut. Kohli didn’t give any information on what changes to expect, but spoke on dealing with such tough calls on a human level, mainly handling the person who is left out.2:12

Agarwal or Rahane: Who will sit out when Kohli is back?

“You have to obviously understand the situation of where the team is placed,” Kohli said. “You have to understand where individuals stand at certain stages during the course of a long season. So you have to obviously communicate well. You have to speak to the individuals, and approach them in a way where you explain things to them properly. Mostly it has been combination-based whenever we have done changes in the past.”We have explained it to the individuals, and they have understood the mindset behind going in with a certain combination. It is not a difficult thing to do when there is collective trust and belief in the group that we are working towards the same vision. Along the line, there are ups and downs, and we understand that as cricketers and sportspeople in general.”It is never a thing that you say that I am absolutely okay or happy about being told that the combination doesn’t allow me to play. That is the dynamic of team sport, and we prioritise the team first, and making sure we take care of individuals along the way. That’s something we have done consistently as a Test team.”We have backed the set of players that have done the job for the Indian team the last five-six years. We maintain and continue to maintain they are the integral part of the larger scheme of things, of the core group of the Indian Test team. They have always been players we have relied upon on many occasions. And they have done the job. It is upon realising and being aware of what’s happening, and then we find the right space and the right way to approach people. Obviously with the management, the coaching staff, discussions happen in a rounded manner.”

Forget Wilson: Newcastle could unearth their next Isak in academy sensation

Newcastle United will be looking to get back to winning ways against Brighton and Hove Albion next time out in the Premier League, after drawing blanks away at Everton last match.

Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton and Hove Albion stand in the way of the Magpies, who could have to rely upon Anthony Gordon as their lone striker for the test of the Seagulls again, despite the 23-year-old missing a decisive spot-kick at Goodison Park to cost his side a win.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe will keep his fingers crossed that Alexander Isak could be back for this clash, away from having to rely on Gordon as a makeshift striker, with the former Borussia Dortmund man proving himself to be a superstar in the past for the Magpies when fully at the races.

Isak's time with Newcastle

The world would have been expected of the Swedish sharp shooter when he arrived to Newcastle in the summer of 2022, having cost the Tyneside team an eye-watering £63m to pick up, a record fee for the Premier League club to splurge out on.

He would instantly hit the ground running in his new surroundings however, to at least start justifying all the millions splashed out on him from the get-go, with an electric ten strikes notched up from 22 top-flight games during his debut season.

He would better these numbers in his second campaign with Howe’s men, with a stunning 21 goals managed in league action, but this season to date hasn’t quite gone according to plan.

Isak only has a meagre goal and assist next to his name from six clashes so far, with his injury troubles involving a broken toe stopping him in his tracks from getting back to his best in front of his adoring St James’ Park masses.

That has meant Howe has had to think outside of the box when it comes to players at his disposal in the striker department, away from his reliable Swedish attacker, but there are other even more left-field options available to him apart from playing Gordon up top, with one being to unleash this exciting teenage hotshot.

The player who could be the next Isak

The player in question is highly rated Magpies youngster Sean Neave, who is making significant waves at the moment in the U18 set-up at St James’ Park as a deadly finisher of chances.

This campaign alone, the 17-year-old has found the back of the net three times from two games, helping himself to a hat-trick at the expense of Derby County at the end of August in U18 Premier League action.

In total, the Newcastle-born goal machine has now fired home 17 goals from 30 games for the U18s, showing off a same clinical edge on youth pitches that has seen Isak become a firm fan’s favourite in the men’s game.

If Neave was to potentially make a name for himself in the senior fold shortly off the back of his continued goalscoring excellence for the U18s, it could spell the end even more for Callum Wilson in a Magpies strip, who is looking to be heading for the exit door soon.

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson

The experienced 32-year-old does have an impressive back catalogue to call upon of 88 Premier League strikes, but he too also finds himself out of action currently up top.

Moreover, with his contract up next summer, discussions will soon have to be had over the Newcastle number nine’s future, with an eagerness to throw Neave into more games potentially popping up if the ex-AFC Bournemouth man is no longer around.

Howe and Co have had great luck when it comes to Lewis Miley shining in the senior fold when making the leap up from youth football, and the same could soon be said for Neave, who might well even end up being as prolific as Isak one day leading the line for his hometown club.

Meg Lanning could not produce her heroics of Saturday and made just 17 as they slumped to 4 for 41 in the ninth over. Three wickets from Poonam Yadav and a half-century from Georgia Redmayne has guided Brisbane Heat to a comfortable win over Sydney Thunder at the Adelaide Oval.Poonam bowled beautifully snaring 3 for 17 including the crucial scalp of India team-mate Smriti Mandhana to help restrict Thunder to 7 for 143 before Redmayne made her third half-century of this WBBL to lay the foundation for the chase, with Georgia Voll, Mikayla Hinkley and Laura Kimmince producing some powerful striking to finish the job with 10 balls to spare.Thunder looked on track to set an imposing total racing to 1 for 62 in seven overs with Mandhana striking six fours and a six in her 37. But she holed out to deep square leg in Poonam’s first over. Corinne Hall was trapped lbw next ball and Thunder fell in a hole. Phoebe Litchfield held the innings together with a composed 40 from 32 balls but became Poonam’s third victim in the 14th over. It was left to captain Hannah Darlington to push the total up to 143 with a handy 19 from 15 balls at the death.Redmayne continued her good form guiding the chase after the early loss of Grace Harris. Redmayne struck seven fours in her 57 from 45 balls. She shared a 41-run stand with Voll and a 59-run stand with Hinkley to get the equation under a run a ball before she fell to Deepti Sharma with 22 runs to win. Paul Scholes destroys £145m worth of Man Utd defenders in scathing criticism – with 'relegation' warning issued to club's transfer team

Manchester United are in the midst of a truly dismal season and currently sit down in 13th place in the Premier League table. The club have invested heavily in new signings in recent transfer windows but their big-money buys have failed to have the desired impact or to live up to their lofty price tags. Club legend Scholes has been particularly critical of United's defensive recruits and has highlighted his concerns about the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez in particular.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportWHAT SCHOLES SAID

He told , brought to you by Sky Bet: "His (De Ligt's) age (25) and his amount of clubs already concerns me. He was brilliant at Ajax, he seems to be getting worse as he gets older. Bayern Munich, Juventus, they've let him go for some reason. Where are your ambitions? I'm talking about getting a team to win the Premier League. Are you going to win the Premier League with De Ligt and Yoro as your centre halves?

Scholes went on to talk about Yoro: "Look, he's a young player, but I haven't liked what I've seen so far. Did you see the Southampton game? He's a young player, he's one centre half I would keep, when I talk about that spine and two centre halves."

The United legend was also critical of Martinez: "Even when he's fit he's not good enough to win the Premier League with."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Scholes also feels more new players are needed and warned the club must strengthen their squad or face a relegation battle. He added: "I think a new goalkeeper is needed, possibly two centre halves, two centre midfield players, and two centre forwards. Alright, I'll go for one centre midfielders and one centre forward, but with a bit of stature, a bit of quality, and really create a spine. When you've got that spine right, then you can add bits to it. That spine, that core, is so important. If they don't get that right this summer, this might sound ridiculous, but the form since this manager is in, they could be looking at relegation. I'm telling you, it's been so bad."

Tim Murtagh named as Middlesex club captain after contract extension

Tim Murtagh has been named as Middlesex’s club captain for the 2022 season, after signing a one-year contract extension which will see him remain at Lord’s until after his 41st birthday.Murtagh, who joined Middlesex from Surrey in 2007, has claimed 783 first-class wickets for the club, including 40 or more in 12 different seasons. He will resume the role in which he stood in for Peter Handscomb for the final five matches of the 2021 County Championship campaign.Murtagh’s appointment is the second major announcement from Middlesex since they parted company with former head coach Stuart Law last month. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Mark Ramprakash would be rejoining the club at which he played the first half of his career, as a batting consultant.”I’m obviously delighted to have extended my association with this great club for another season,” Murtagh said. “It has become a huge part of my life since the move across the river.”Having finished the season on a high last year I’m already excited about the challenge that the 2022 season holds with this group of players.”I’m honoured to have been asked to take on extra responsibility with the club captaincy and look forward to aiding Pete Handscomb as much as I can on the field next year.”Middlesex’s interim head coach, Alan Coleman, added: “We are delighted that Murts has agreed to extend his contract, as well as take on this additional leadership responsibility.”He is without doubt one of Middlesex’s cricketing greats, and its fantastic news that he’ll be continuing to run in for us from the Nursery End for at least the next year.”His influence on the rest of the squad cannot be underestimated, and alongside his wickets I’m certain he’ll continue to mentor our younger bowlers as they make their way in the game.”Middlesex endured a disappointing campaign in 2021, finishing the season in Division Three after a poor group stage notable for frequent batting collapses. However, Murtagh led the side to victory over Leicestershire in his first match in charge in July, and then oversaw three consecutive victories against Derbyshire, Sussex and Worcestershire. As club captain, he will once again take charge of the Championship side if Handscomb’s arrival from Australia is delayed by his Sheffield Shield involvement with Victoria.
