Imran Tahir’s four-wicket haul outshone Kaleem Sana’s efforts as Guyana Amazon Warriors clinched a comprehensive 57-run win against Dubai Capitals, moving to the top of the table in the Global Super League, in Guyana. After being sent in to bat, Amazon Warriors posted 138 for 7, before their bowlers delivered a clinical performance to bowl out Capitals for just 81 in 15.4 overs.Amazon Warriors’ innings was held together by Moeen Ali, who played a composed knock of 40 off 38 balls. Sherfane Rutherford provided valuable support with a handy 33 off 23 deliveries, striking crucial boundaries during the middle overs. The duo added momentum at a critical phase after Amazon Warriors were reduced to 27 for 3 inside the powerplay. Romario Shepherd chipped in with a late cameo, adding 15 off just nine balls, pushing the total beyond 130. For Capitals, left-arm seamer Sana was the standout bowler, claiming an impressive 4 for 31 in his four overs, with three of those coming in the death overs. In their reply, Capitals never got going. Both openers fell cheaply, and the middle order crumbled under pressure. Dwaine Pretorius and Shepherd tightened the screws early, with the latter striking twice in the fifth over. Tahir then took over with a masterful spell, returning figures of 4 for 12 from his 3.4 overs.None of the Capitals batters, apart from Sediqullah Atal and Niroshan Dickwella, managed to cross 20. A brief glimmer of hope came through a 27-run stand off just 12 balls between the two, but once they fell in quick succession, the innings unraveled rapidly. From 36 for 1, Capitals collapsed to 66 for 8 and were eventually bowled out for 81.

Rishabh Pant 'should be fine' to play fourth Test, says Shubman Gill

Pant could not keep wicket for the rest of the Lord’s Test after suffering an injury on the first day

Rishabh Pant “should be fine” in time for the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford from July 23 after scans revealed “no major injury” to the index finger of his left hand, according to India captain Shubman Gill.Pant is the second-highest run-scorer in the series, with 425 in six innings at an average of 70.83.He was struck on the index finger of his left hand while attempting to collect a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah down the leg side during the 34th over of England’s first innings in the Lord’s Test. He was in considerable pain and needed treatment from the physio that caused a long break in play. Though he finished that over, he could not continue keeping wicket, and was replaced behind the stumps by Dhruv Jurel for the rest of the Test.Related

Gill 'extremely proud' of India's lower-order fight

Pant, however, came out to bat at No. 5 in both of India’s innings at Lord’s. He scored 74 off 112 balls in the first innings, and 9 off 12 in the second. However, there were moments during both innings where he was in discomfort due to the injury and had to take the injured bottom hand off the bat as he connected with the ball. This was most apparent during India’s chase of 193 on the final day, when Pant walked out to bat with India needing another 135 to win with six wickets in hand. He was not at ease facing the pace of Jofra Archer, frequently releasing his bottom hand from the bat handle.Pant became the first wicket to fall on day five when he lost his off stump to Archer while trying to defend, and India went on to fall short of the target by 22 runs to go 2-1 down in the five-Test series. It is unlikely that Pant will be allowed a keeping substitute for the same injury during the next Test at Old Trafford so he will need to be fully fit going into that fixture.

Gloucestershire spinner Tom Smith announces retirement, aged 37

Tom Smith, Gloucestershire’s long-serving left-arm spinner, has announced that he will retire from professional cricket at the end of his club’s T20 Blast campaign.Smith, 37, has claimed 154 T20 wickets for Gloucestershire since joining in 2013 – placing him second in the club’s standings, and fifth in the all-time T20 Blast stats – and has picked up 301 wickets across all formats.Last season, he was part of the team that memorably claimed the T20 Blast title with victory over Somerset at Edgbaston, while he also won the One-Day Cup with the club back in 2015.Related

Last November, he signed a one-year contract extension that kept him on the playing staff while also working with the Gloucestershire coaching team. However, he has featured just five times this season, and with the club unlikely to reach the Blast quarter-finals, Thursday’s match against Sussex at Cheltenham is shaping up as his final home match.”It feels like the right time,” Smith wrote in an open letter on the club’s website. “Over the past few seasons, I’ve been fortunate to begin building a coaching career alongside playing, and I’m now ready to give that my full focus.”To Gloucestershire, thank you for believing in me. These past 13 seasons have been incredibly special for both me and my family. From playing a part in the club’s promotion to Division One to winning two white-ball trophies, they’ve been the best days I’ve had on a cricket field.”In his letter, Smith also paid tribute to the club’s fans and staff for the support they offered him back in 2018, following the death of his wife Laura. “The Glosters dressing room is full of not just brilliant cricketers, but even better people. It’s been an honour to share it with them,” he wrote. “2018 was the hardest year of my life … the love and support I received from everyone at the club during that time meant more than I can ever say.”Finally to my family, my three beautiful daughters and my partner, Georgie, thank you for your love, patience, and support. You’ve been my rock, and now, hopefully, I’ll get to spend more time watching your matches.”Mark Alleyne, Gloucestershire’s head coach, paid his own tribute to Smith as he moves full-time into a coaching career.”While Tom played more than 50 first-class matches, it’s in white-ball cricket where he truly excelled,” Alleyne said. “With 186 appearances, he has been one of the most consistent spinners in the country.”As he begins a new chapter in coaching, we’re confident he’ll approach it with the same energy and skill that defined his playing career. He’s already made great strides in this area, and while the transition is expected to be seamless, we will never forget the outstanding contribution he has made to Gloucestershire cricket.”

Celtic and Rangers "monitoring" possible free agent deal for star Tony Mowbray loves

Celtic are battling Rangers for the services of a “wonderful” free agent signing.

Rodgers delighted after vital Celtic win

The Hoops beat Motherwell 3-2 in stoppage time on Sunday afternoon, ensuring that they remain just two points behind leaders Hearts in the Scottish Premiership table.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was delighted with the victory, realising that his side weren’t at their best, but praising the “heart” that his players showed.

“I think the players deserve a huge amount of credit because it’s not easy to play here, especially when you’re behind in the game. The guys coming into the game made a big impact for us and we won through in the end, and I think deservedly so with the opportunities that we had, but it was still a very tough game.

“When you’re still trying to find the level of performance that we would want, you still have to show a big heart and you have to dig out results, and that’s what we did today. It’s been a tough start for us in a number of ways, on and off the pitch, but the one thing is that it hopefully can galvanise us, and I think the supporters will be proud of the players in terms of the heart they showed, and the spirit to keep going.”

Away from the on-pitch action, Celtic continue to eye potential new signings, with a new update now emerging over one rumoured transfer target for the Scottish champions.

New update on Celtic signing "wonderful" ace

Speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke shared an update on Celtic’s chances of signing Saint-Etienne midfielder Pierre Ekwah, who is in the process of departing the French club, with the dispute to terminate his contract still ongoing.

“I would be surprised. Obviously you’ve got those added complications of him trying to sort out his contract situation at Saint Etienne. There’s a bit of a standoff going on between Ekwah and obviously the club as well over that one. So I think it’s one that both clubs (Celtic and Rangers) will be monitoring, maybe moving for the former Sunderland man because of that.

Pierre Ekwah in action for Sunderland.

“The player has not taken part in much of Saint Etienne’s pre-season or played any games as well. He’d be lacking fitness. He’d probably be waiting for a while before he could be match ready for either Celtic or Rangers as well. So that’s why I think it’d be a deal that maybe both clubs will be wary of stepping in for Ekwah.

“I don’t think Celtic or Rangers will be pushing to do that. I do think both clubs are probably well stocked in midfield as well. They don’t need to bring in a midfielder as a free agent in the current circumstances. I think both clubs have got enough cover.”

It would be a shame for Celtic not to sign Ekwah, considering the 23-year-old is a versatile player who can shine in midfield and defence, being hailed as “wonderful” by Tony Mowbray, having worked together at Sunderland.

As O’Rourke alludes to, though, the Hoops do have good depth in the middle of the park currently, and there are more pressing areas to focus on moving forward, like the need for a long-term solution up front despite Kelechi Iheanacho’s positive start in Glasgow.

Forget Eze: Arsenal's 8/10 star is becoming Arteta's most important player

Arsenal’s fourth Premier League win in a row yesterday has seen the Gunners take a huge stride towards finally ending their drought for a league title.

Mikel Arteta’s men secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Emirates – a result that takes his side four points clear at the summit.

It was far from a vintage display for the Spaniard’s outfit, but the manager will be pleased that his side managed to battle through the adversity and claim three more vital points.

The likes of Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyokeres endured quiet afternoons in North London and were unable to add to their tallies in the 2025/26 campaign.

However, one player did manage to step up to the plate and produce the goods and subsequently pop up with the vital contribution yesterday afternoon.

Eberechi Eze’s display against Crystal Palace

Back in the summer transfer window, Arsenal forked out a fee in the region of £67.5m for the signature of Eberechi Eze – in an attempt to bolster their depth and quality in the final third.

Since arriving from Crystal Palace, the England international had only netted one goal, with such an effort coming against League One side Port Vale in the Carabao Cup.

Ahead of the clash, there was a sense of inevitability he would score against his former employers – and that he did, firing home a loose ball just minutes before half-time.

Alongside his first Premier League goal, Eze also impressed with his creativity, subsequently registering seven passes into the final third, which saw him create two chances in the process.

The 27-year-old also won five of the seven duels he entered, whilst also completing 100% of the duels he entered – producing a really impressive all-round showing in North London.

However, despite Eze’s showing, one other Gunner managed to impress in the triumph, with the regular starter now becoming one of the manager’s most important players.

The Arsenal star who’s becoming one of Arteta’s most important players

Gabriel has been one of Arsenal’s star men over the last couple of years, with his performances at both ends having a real impact on the club’s ability to challenge for a title.

The Brazilian’s showing against Palace yesterday was yet another example of his quality, with the centre-back hitting the woodwork and coming perilously close to his third goal of the campaign.

Out of possession, he led the Gunners to a sixth Premier League clean sheet of the campaign, after making six clearances and winning 100% of the ground duels he entered.

However, the 27-year-old isn’t alone in becoming a key man for Arteta, with midfielder Declan Rice producing a phenomenal display against Palace yesterday afternoon.

The Englishman had huge expectations placed upon him after his £105m transfer from West Ham United, but it’s safe to say he’s massively surpassed all of the supporters’ expectations.

He’s started all but one league game this campaign, with his showing against the Eagles one of his most impressive over the last couple of months.

Rice created three chances and made two tackles during the victory, both of which were the highest tallies of any player on the pitch throughout the 90-minute match.

Other figures, such as 38 passes completed, with 12 being into the final third, showcase his incredible composure with the ball to dictate the play at the heart of the side.

However, out of possession, the Englishman was just as impressive, as he made two interceptions and won 100% of the aerial duels he entered against Oliver Glasner’s men.

To top off his excellent display, Rice was handed a superb 8/10 match rating by The Express’ Tom Parsons – topping off what was a phenomenal afternoon at the Emirates.

After such a showing, there’s little debate that the Englishman is once again becoming one of the club’s first names on the teamsheet in the hunt for a Premier League title.

If he can continue to perform alongside Gabriel and Eze, there’s no reason why Arteta’s men can’t go all the way and end the generational wait for a top-division title.

Rarely-seen "exciting talent" is biggest winner from Rangers manager change

Glasgow Rangers may have a brand-new head coach in the building by the time they next take to the field at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership after the international break.

The Light Blues opted to remove their previous manager from his post after a draw last time out in the league meant that he had only won one of his seven Premiership matches in charge.

Russell Martin only won five of his 17 games as the club’s manager, as shown in the graphic above, and the Ibrox giants are now looking to find his replacement.

The latest on the Rangers manager search at Ibrox

The Light Blues are aiming to bring in a replacement ahead of their clash with Dundee United at Ibrox after the break, and they appear to be closing in on their man.

Manager Focus

Who are the greatest coaches in the land? Football FanCast’s Manager Focus series aims to reveal all.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Rangers are ‘close’ to reaching an agreement with out-of-work head coach Steven Gerrard to make him Martin’s replacement.

The reporter claims that the English tactician, who left Rangers to join Aston Villa back in 2021, held face-to-face talks with Light Blues chairman Andrew Cavanagh and vice-chairman Paraag Marathe in London earlier this week.

Those conversations went well and the Liverpool legend seems to be closing in on a return for a second spell in the dugout at Ibrox this season.

This change in manager in Glasgow could have ramifications throughout the squad, as it is a clean slate for all the players, and the rarely-seen Clinton Nsiala may end up being the biggest winner.

Why Clinton Nsiala may be Ibrox's biggest Rangers winner

The left-footed central defender was bombed out of the squad by Martin this season and has not played a single minute of competitive football since the 2024/25 campaign.

Nsiala, whose last appearance came against St Mirren in April, posted an Instagram story of himself celebrating and smiling after a goal for the club at Ibrox after the news broke that Martin had been sacked. Possibly a coincidence and unrelated.

The 21-year-old starlet, who joined from AC Milan last year, made 11 appearances in the Premiership during the 2024/25 campaign and showed some signs of promise.

As you can see in the table above, Nsiala got a taste of Premiership action last season and had positive and negative aspects to his performances, winning the majority of his aerial duels, but being a bit too weak in his battles on the deck.

At the age of 21, the French gem, who was described as an “exciting talent” by Nils Koppen, has plenty of time left to develop and improve as a player, but Martin was not willing to provide him with chances to gain experience this season.

That is despite Jayden Meghoma, a left-back, and Derek Cornelius, a centre-back, being the only two left-footed defenders in the senior squad at this moment in time.

Martin lined up with Cornelius out of position at left-back and the right-footed John Souttar as a left-sided centre-back in the 1-1 draw with Falkirk last time out in the Premiership, which speaks to the issues that the Gers have had on that side of the defence.

Nsiala, therefore, may end up being the biggest winner from the change in management at Ibrox because Martin, clearly, was not keen on him, but Gerrard may see the lack of naturally left-footed options at the back and provide the youngster with an opportunity.

Gerrard, after all, was the manager who signed Calvin Bassey and gave him his Gers debut as a young and versatile left-footed defender, which may give Nsiala hope that he could follow in the Nigeria international’s footsteps.

New Rangers manager could lose Ibrox star as soon as January window opens

Another potential blow for the Gers.

ByTom Cunningham Oct 10, 2025

It will now be interesting to see what kind of decisions the new manager makes, if it does end up being Gerrard, with the current squad once he is in the building at Ibrox.

Dodgers Fans Cause Delay During NLDS Game 2 After Throwing Objects on Field

There was a mid-game delay during NLDS Game 2 at Dodger Stadium after some rowdy Los Angeles Dodgers fans decided to throw objects onto the field in the direction of San Diego Padres outfielders Jurickson Profar and Fernando Tatis Jr.

Prior to the bottom of the seventh inning, a couple of baseballs were thrown from the stands into left field nearby where Profar was warming up. The stadium PA issued a reminder to people not to throw objects onto the field, though that didn't seem to curtail the behavior from the fans.

After umpires congregated in the outfield with Padres manager Mike Shildt and the Padres defense, fans began throwing trash out into the grass in right field, near where Tatis was standing.

Profar was irate after the baseballs landed in his surroundings, and he voiced his displeasure to the umpires as they tried to settle down the crowd.

Play eventually resumed, though it was clear that players were not happy with the childish behavior from fans.

Both Profar and Tatis had prior exchanges with fans seated in the outfield seats. Profar robbed a home run earlier in the game, snagging the ball right in front of the outstretched arms of fans in left field. Meanwhile, Tatis, who homered earlier in the game, could be seen dancing in right field while getting booed by the disgruntled home fans.

It was an unusual and unfortunate scene in L.A., as the unruly behavior of a few fans led to some mid-inning dramatics and a brief delay.
