  Evra told : "It reminds me a little bit of when Cristiano did the interview with Piers Morgan (in 2022). People sometimes forget we are human beings and we can get hurt. And I feel like when I heard what Salah said, I feel like someone is hurting a lot. The backlash he had from the fans is just ridiculous. Like what he achieved for the club, but at the same time, when you're not playing well, sometimes you need to accept being on the bench. I feel like he’s not going to play for Liverpool again. You never know, Liverpool could perform better without him and they're going to maybe let him go in January.

  "I feel like it was a year too long, he should have left last summer. When Sadio Mane left, I knew Liverpool would be in trouble.   All eyes will now be on Anfield on Saturday as the latest drama in the Salah saga unfolds. Liverpool return to action in the Premier League against Brighton in a fixture that will be Salah's last before he is due to join up with Egypt's AFCON squad. It's not clear yet if Salah will be involved in the game or if he will be on the bench once again for Liverpool. If Slot does leave Salah out of his starting XI once again, it will likely increase speculation about a winter move away from Anfield.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has taken a fresh swipe at Mohamed Salah ahead of the team's Champions League clash with Inter at San Siro on Tuesday evening. Salah has been left out of the squad for the game in Milan following his critical comments after Saturday's draw with Leeds, and his future at the club remains in doubt. Carragher has already branded Salah a "disgrace" for his outburst and has now followed that up with a fresh post on social media.

Salah in the spotlight amid Liverpool struggles

Salah vented his frustrations at Liverpool after being left out of the starting XI by Arne Slot for the third straight match against Leeds last time out. The 33-year-old Egypt international, who has scored 250 goals in 420 Liverpool appearances, claimed he had been "thrown under the bus" at Anfield and alleged someone at the club wants him out. Salah also claimed his relationship with head coach Slot had broken down. His comments shocked the football world and drew a critical response from Carragher who dubbed Salah a "disgrace" and claimed his comments were designed to "cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position." Slot has responded by admitting he has "no clue" if Salah will play for the club again and subsequently left him out of the squad travelling to Italy for their Champions League match.

Salah has posted an image on social media on Tuesday of himself training alone in the gym at Liverpool while his team-mates are in Milan preparing for their Champions League match without their talisman. Carragher has reacted to the post by responding: "I'm not sure I've wanted Liverpool to win a game more than tonight for a long time! Come you mighty reds."

Will Salah play for Liverpool again?

While Salah will play no part against Inter, it's still not clear if he will feature for the Reds again. Slot's side are in Premier League action on Sunday against Brighton, a fixture which will be Salah's last before he is due to link up with the Egypt squad for the Africa Cup of Nations. The Liverpool boss has been asked if Salah will feature against the Seagulls but was coy in his response. He told : "We are here for the Inter game. And I think you can understand that the last two days were already a lot. A lot of things going on, after conceding in the last minute against Leeds. Not for the first time this season. Then what happened afterwards. So I think you can understand that my full focus is now on Inter Milan, and we will see what the future is."

Slot was quizzed further on the saga with Salah and added only: "No, far from ideal. Not good for anyone. First of all, not for the club, not for the team, not for him as well. So, far from ideal, but, yeah, we reacted in the way we did not to take him here. And that tells you what we felt about his comments."

The drama has brought a fresh wave of speculation about Salah's future, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal reportedly willing to sign the forward in the January transfer window if he does decide to move on from Liverpool.

Liverpool must now focus on their clash with Inter and what promises to be tough match against the Serie A giants. The Nerazzurri, who reached last season's Champions League final, head into the game with four wins from their opening five matches in the competition and are also currently sitting in third place in the Serie A table. The Reds were humbled 4-1 last time out in the competition at home to PSV and know another poor result will pile more pressure on Slot during what's fast become a nightmare second season at Anfield for the Dutchman.

The San Diego Padres are always a compelling team at the trade deadline, and this year is no different. After completing a sweep of the Mets on Wednesday night, star outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. was asked what the team’s recent run of play said to the folks upstairs running the business side of things.

“They better get us help,” Tatis said. “We’re going for it, and we’re gonna keep playing good baseball.”

It didn’t take long for the San Diego front office to answer the call. On Thursday, the team pulled off a blockbuster deal, sending four prospects to the Athletics in exchange for closer Mason Miller and starting pitcher JP Sears, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Passan. On the other side of the deal, the Athletics land two of the Padres’ top three prospects in shortstop Leodalis De Vries and righty Braden Nett, as well as two more potential future arms in Henry Báez and Eduarniel Nuñez.

For the Padres, both Miller and Sears are help for the immediate and near future. Miller is under team control through 2029, and is having a spectacular year, posting a 1.02 WHIP and a 13.9 K/9 while converting on 20 of 23 save opportunities.

Additionally, Miller gives San Diego some flexibility for how they handle the next few hours before the deadline. The Padres were rumored to have been willing to part with All-Star closer Robert Suarez, and with Miller now on the roster might be more inclined to do so, though they could also opt to keep both pitchers and carry an elite bullpen into the stretch run of the season. Sears, a back-of-rotation starter, could also give the Padres some wiggle room should they move forward on a deal that sends Dylan Cease to a new home in the majors.

But while the deal has its advantages for the Padres over the next few months, the payoff for the Athletics in the longterm could be huge. De Vries is ranked as the No. 3 prospect in all of baseball, and now looks likely to be a top jersey seller whenever the A’s finally complete their move to Las Vegas, and all three pitchers they netted in the deal could prove valuable arms down the line.

We might be able to paing a fuller picture of the Padres after a few more deadline deals, but as things stand, this round goes in favor of the A’s future. San Diego have pushed their chips to the center of the table. If they win the hand, no one will question the move, but that remains to be seen.

Some friendly fire took place in the New York Yankees' game against the New York Mets on Saturday.

In the second game of this Subway Series, Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe accidentally hit Aaron Judge in the head with a baseball. While it's normal for Judge to get thrown the ball as they head off the field, this time Judge wasn't looking and was hit in the face.

Fortunately for the Yankees, the two-time American League MVP wasn't seriously hurt. A bandaid was placed close to Judge's eye, but he was able to continue playing.

Unfortunately for the Yankees, their game against the Mets was not going well through seven innings. Judge was held without a hit or walk through three at-bats, and the Yankees trailed 11-5. The pinstripes are currently in the midst of a five-game losing streak, and unless they can pull off a major comeback, that streak looks like it will extend to six games.

It’s hard to think of another point in recent memory when Arsenal have had such a strong squad.

Rival sides might have spent hundreds of millions of pounds on individual superstars, but Mikel Arteta and Co have built a group with few if any real weaknesses.

With that said, even though there are talented players in every position, it is still quite easy to proclaim Bukayo Saka the pick of the bunch and the Gunners’ most important star.

Moreover, should they get up to speed, one of Arteta’s summer signings could help the Hale Ender reach the level of Thierry Henry as a creator.

Yet, during his time with the Gunners, the Les Ulis-born legend managed to rack up an impressive tally of 104 assists, which works out to one every 3.62 games, and if that wasn’t enough, he also managed 20 goals and 20 assists in the 02/03 league season.

But what made the Frenchman such a creative force? Well, playing with a host of world-class attackers and under the management of Arsène Wenger certainly helps, but it was more than that.

It was in part down to the same reason he could so wonderfully place a shot into the corner of the net, but also his general attitude to trying risky things.

For example, he said that, “I know it sounds stupid, don’t be scared to make mistakes. That stops a lot of players.”

In all, Henry was an extraordinary creator as well as a world-class goalscorer, and while Saka might not ever quite reach his level when it comes to the former, a recent signing could help him do that for the latter.

While Eberechi Eze and Martin Zubimendi could help Saka get closer to Henry’s goalscoring levels through the chances they end up creating, it’s Viktor Gyokeres who could help the Englishman reach his creative level.

Now, it has to be said, that with the current goalscoring form of the Swede, such an idea may seem absurd. After all, he’s been so hit or miss that Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville described him as a “misfit”.

However, it’s important to remember the league season is just eight games old, he’s already put the ball in the back of the net three times and his form over the last two years was nothing short of world-class.

For example, during his two seasons with Sporting CP, the 27-year-old “monster” as he was desribed by journalist Alex Turk, scored a staggering 97 goals and provided 28 assists in 102 appearances, totalling 8417 minutes.

That works out to an average of 1.22 goal involvements every single game, or one every 67.33 minutes, so while he won’t get those numbers in England, he hasn’t just lost the ability to get shots off and find space in the penalty area.

In fact, this was something fans finally saw in the game against Fulham, as while he failed to score, there was a moment in the first half that his smart movement gave him the chance to, and who did the pass come from? Saka, of course.

The second reason the former Coventry City star could help the 24-year-old’s creative numbers explode this season is down to this movement, his physicality and the fact he, as Mattinson says, plays with “real venom.”

This bulldozing approach to centre-forward play is already freeing up more space for Saka to operate in, and once again fans saw the fruits of this at Craven Cottage.

Ultimately, while he is firing yet, Gyokeres’ innate finishing ability and the fact he drags opposition defenders away from Saka so often could help the Hale Ender reach Henry-esque creative numbers by the end of the season.
